If you’ve followed my Twitter updates over the past few days, you know that our family embarked on a 27 hours road trip with our final destination – the happiest place on earth – Walt Disney World. So far (three days into the trip) we are having a blast.
Last night, I had the opportunity to reconnect with a friend I traveled with during my time as band instructor/keyboard player for Up With People’s Cast E-1993. Jill and her beautiful family live just west of Orlando and made the trip to our hotel to spend a few hours with us. The catch is this – the last time we saw each other was in late December 1993! That’s more than 15 years ago… but last night, it felt like only a few days had passed.
Yes, much has changed. We are both older, we both have families (our kids had a blast together) and have both had incredible personal and professional success since out year with UWP.
When we met in ’93 we were committed to make the world a better place. During our cast year we felt like we did – staying with over 85 host families, learning and sharing life with 135 other students speaking more than 15 languages and representing more than 20 countries – and singing our way around the world with a message of understanding and peace.
Today, we both are committed to making the world a better place, in respective corners of the world.
It may have been 15 years since our last travel day conversation, but last night it really felt like it was yesterday.
Thanks Up With People. Even today, you are still making a different in my life.
